About Dr. Coughlin
-
Dr. Coughlin has been studying psychology and human behavior for more than 25 years. He has been in private practice since 1987. He specializes in helping to identify life's problems and solution finding to obtaining relief.
Dr. Coughlin is the founder and president of the New Jersey Violence Prevention Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of violence and aggression. He is a lecturer on violence issues, the over-medication of America's children, and nonpunitive methods for managing children's behavior.
He has served as a mental health consultant to the federal government since 1994 and as a psychologist/consultant to the Mercer/Middlesex County Critical Incident Debriefing Team since 1992.
He holds certifications in Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Family Therapy, and Total Quality Management (TQM). He is a board-certified Diplomat Fellow in the International Prescribing Psychologist Register (FPPR).

In his personal life, Dr. Coughlin has spent 30 years studying Japanese karate, which places strong emphasis on nonviolence as a way of life. He has attained a fourth-degree black belt.

Dr. Coughlin also offers programs for businesses, schools, and other organizations in Workplace Violence Prevention, Critical Incidence Debriefing, Anger Regulation, and Drug-Free Workplace programs. Other programs offered for individuals and organizations include Safety First Crisis Management, Smoking Cessation, Healthy Eating, Stress Management, and Discipline Training for Managers.
